1. Powerful Thinking

"Thinking is easy. It is hard to act. "But the hardest thing is to act according to your thinking." ~Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Did you crack when you were under pressure to accomplish a big task? Everyone cracks under pressure at some point or another, so don't feel bad about it. What would you do if you had known what you know now back then? Would you have cracked under pressure after all?

Probably not.

Thanks to your mat training, you can think faster, sharper, and more deeply than ever!

Now you can think at the moment!

BJJ is a great way to develop one's thinking ability at a new level! Participating in healthy competition and rolling with your teammates regularly gives your decision-making skills an insane workout. If you want to beat your partner's next moves before they gain the upper hand, you must think quickly on the mat. Predicting your partner's following actions requires a much higher level of thinking than just thinking about yourself.

Your skills on the mat will do your job at work much easier before you know it!

2. Patience

In the words of George Saville, "a man who masters patience will master everything else."

It is said that patience is one of the most challenging life skills to master. We can see it right in front of us, we are aware of how important it is, but we aren't able to be patient. Regarding patience, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu forces students to work hard and understand how valuable it is. During class, a student's patience is tested many times.

A great thing about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that everyone starts terribly! There is no immediate response to submissions. The first, third, or tenth time you try a move with proper technique, you won't nail it. You will become skilled when you practice the same movements repeatedly.

Why are you so dedicated to practicing? Keep your patience! Some things take time to become great, and we must accept that fact. When we understand this, our stress level will decrease, and we will have better, more positive thoughts! This is crucial to growing off the mats and on them.

3. Discipline

Jim Rohn said, "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment."

The first time you rode a bike, were you an expert? Have you driven a car? Of course not! Regardless of age or fitness level, BJJ isn't something that will be mastered quickly. It takes an average of eight to twelve years of training to receive a black belt. Someone will inevitably be better than you in class. You will learn a move faster than someone else while you are training. In the face of a fierce competitor, you may find your favorite activity useless. You will nevertheless be encouraged by your coaches to keep going! It's here that discipline comes into play! It doesn't matter how tired you are; you will get better. Even if you lose, remember you're either winning or learning when you're on the mat.

4. Confidence

Carl Lewis: "If you don't have confidence, you will never win."

The more confident we are, the better off we will be in all areas of life. Bullying in school is less likely to occur among young children who understand their self-worth and have high levels of self-confidence. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great way to release energy and keep their mind and body engaged in a manner other sports cannot. There can be a multitude of variables in every training class. Another student might be twice your weight or much taller or shorter than you. The thought of this may be frightening at first, but it shouldn't last long. You will leave class to understand that believing in yourself leads to success once you conquer these small fears. When you practice BJJ, you unlock your character and learn who you are.

No one can ever take this power away from you!

Your self-awareness gives you the confidence to handle any situation. A successful life is built on confidence, whether it is in your family, friends, workplace, or school.
